Tips on Choosing Joinery
Standards
First check the joinery bears both the national trade standard
as well as that of any independent testing bodies.
Make sure that you are selecting joinery that is suitable for the
zone of your property.
Colours and Finishes
Long life durablity requires a stable base material and a high
performance surface finish. Joinery requires a
strong and stable base material such as Aluminium. This provides
a very stable base for both common finishing processes:
- Electrostatic powdercoating
- Anodising
Both these processes provide a high quality and durable surface
protection with a wide range of decorative properties. Other less
stable materials require regular repainting and maintenance, which
adds to the cost of ownership. These now account for less than 5%
of the total demand.
When specifying a finish it is essential that you consider whether
the joinery is for internal or external use. A thinner film thicknesses
is used for indoor use, and are unlikely to be satisfactory for
outdoor use.
