Cladding Options

As we explore the options for remodeling and renovations we follow along the progress of our project home.

In selecting a cladding option for the repair we had to first consider:

The modern design of the house - built on the side of a hill and escalating down three levels - each level being two stories high. This makes the house more dificult to maintain, so a major consideration is the permanence of the finish.

Having been extremely let down by the current cladding I was not ever likely to go near a fiber cement - plaster combination again.

The modern look of the house dictates a modern looking cladding.

The first step was to identify all the cladding suppliers in New Zealand.

From this I have identified the following for further investigation:

• Palliside - a very popular choice with many leaky home owners
• Nu-Wall
• PBS - have the overclad system that can reduce the cost of repair dramatically
• Symonite - I like the almost commercial sleekness of this product, but the cost for this project may be prohibitive. If I had no budget constraints this would be the fore-runner.

Conclusion

At the moment - my leading contender is to use Palliside with the OverClad system provided by PBS. I also like the competent, complete service that PBS provide in terms of an in-house design team, project management skills and full complement of sub-contractors.
